A while ago, I thought of the idea of giving the emoticons colored outlines, like the toons. So I made a mockup of that. I'm still undecided — I think some of them look better, and some look worse. (I also made other improvements, like more accurate colors and shapes.)

I think the black outlines are a bit easier to see, considering their size. Also it makes them look more cohesive.

Here's a kind of middle ground: colored outlines inside, black on the outside. The black outline makes them cohesive and stand out, and the coloring inside makes them more distinctive and lively almost. What do you think? (I've also included a second version with regular entirely black outlines, with all other minor changes, such as improved colors and pixels, intact.) Attachments:

I wasn't sure at first, but the more I look at these (black outlines mixed with colored), the more I'm warming to them. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside for that perfect emoticon flavor. I was really working hard to maintain black outlines throughout when making the originals, but I agree it got messy in places, and it just isn't practical for a resolution this low. These look better. Nice jorb!

Thanks! So would you say these are fit for official emoticonation? Emoticonization? ...Emoticonomy? Sure, let's bolster our emoticonomy. I was going to say something like, "I don't know, maybe", but then I realized how many things I post are basically "I don't know, maybe". Be'sing decisive for once. Edit: Putting my vote down for "maybe" in the poll since that's the closest thing to what we decided on.

Done! And the Goblin, Jibblies Painting, and fresh cuppa Jones have been added as permanent emoticons (50% for convenience, 50% for technical reasons)! Anyone have any questions, concerns, complaints, compliments, or anything else that starts with a C sound?

This has nothing to do with the rest of the thread, but I wasn't sure if it was important enough to get its own, so here it is. Back when we were designing the forum, I put up the basement stripe banner (I think it was Lira who suggested it) just to see how it looked, and it stuck. But over a year ago, Branderson suggested adding some characters to it. I thought it sounded interesting, but never got around to doing anything with the idea until now. Here's a low quality mockup. What do you think? Calm simplicity or fun liveliness? I have no preference one way or the other (which is partially why I didn't feel the need to give it its own thread). Attachments:

Though I'm not positive the characters would show up right on my mobile devices due to cropping. I'm a fan of simplicity so I'm good with the header as it is, but I absolutely wouldn't be opposed to this change (if the edges are cleaned up a little in the final version).

Yeah, maybe it's best to leave it. If it ain't broke and all that.
