As a follow-up to my previous poll, how should Homestar Runner be introduced? The body of work isn't exactly accessible for newcomers — while the lack of continuity makes it easy to watch any toon out of order, the progression of inside jokes, running gags, and character-based humor does not. Watching chronologically doesn't give the greatest first impression either, as the series takes a while to get out of early installment weirdness, and gets better the more it goes on. Is there a specific toon you'd start with, or a method you'd use? Personally, I'd give a brief explanation of the show and the history behind it, explaining how there may be some references that'll go over their head. Then I'd show them a bunch of Strong Bad Emails, probably starting around #41, invisibility. Sbemails are pretty consistent in quality by that point, and don't rely too much on running gags and character-based humor, introducing concepts and character traits in a natural way. There are so many of them, and they're so short that even if they aren't sold on the first one you show them, they're bound to find something they enjoy eventually. It's not too much of a commitment like watching a full half-hour episode of a show or a feature-length film, since early emails are usually barely two minutes long. Once they're sold on it, I'd let them simply roam free to discover the website on their own, equipped with the knowledge that a lot of things won't make sense at first. I'd also suggest Come On, Fhqwhpods!, an entertaining podcast covering the entire series in chronological order, as it helpfully explains references and historical contexts, as well as the Homestar Runner Wiki, which does the same thing in a less entertaining way.
