Ever since the hiatus, the release of each new toon has been a momentous occasion. Their momentousness creates long-lasting memories that will stay with us until we forget them. Here are some of mine.
I can't remember any interesting details 'bout the rest of 'em. They mostly just consist of going to the wiki main page and seeing an update. But what about you guys? Any fond remembrances? Remembories? Reminisceries?
- April Fool 2014 — I heard "Hey Gfd, there's a new Homestar Runner toon!" being shouted from the other room. Seeing as there hadn't been a toon in three years and it was April Fools' Day, I was incredulous, but walked in anyway. I said, "This is an April Fools' joke, right?", and they said "yep," presumably misinterpreting my question. The ending screen was visible on my dad's computer, and he refreshed the page. (I had actually predicted that the big hiatus-ending toon would start with the Index Page somehow. Like, maybe it would be dark and Homestar would be missing, and then he'd walk in and turn the lights on. So I was glad to be proven right.) While Homestar was laughing about the P., I heard him say "Um... what's going on here?". I thought it was going to cut to something else, but it was actually just the April Fools' wiki logo talking, so my dad closed the other tab.
- Fish Eye Lens — I was in another room (again) when I heard my mom exclaim "Ooh!", followed by the voices of Strong Bad and Coach Z. Putting two and two together, I rushed in and sure enough, it was a brand new thing. (I hadn't seen the hi-res screen grab from Twitter yet, so I was mostly going off the recent interview.) Since I missed the first few seconds, we ended up watching it twice.
- Halloween Safety — After having two updates in the same year, I started browsing the wiki more frequently. One day I checked the wiki and found a toon called Halloween Safety. I assumed it would be a Halloween safety parody video (along the lines of Costume Commercial or Safety Dan), but alas, 'twas not.
- sbemail206 — I don't think I saw the wiki main page; for whatever reason, I ended up going straight to recent changes. There was a cavalcade of edits to "sbemail206" and "Lappier" and such, and my brain short-circuited. I thought "Did they release another teaser? Wait, it's April Fools' Day, maybe they released a fake email as a joke." When I found out that they had actually done it, my mind imploded. (My prediction that the next email would be called "sbemail206" was proven correct as well.)
- too cool — I was doing a series of major edits on the Other Character Variations page, when suddenly everything started to slow down. It wasn't a problem with my Wi-Fi, since other websites were fine. But I finished the edit and unsuspectingly went to the main page, where my eye was drawn to a little Strong Bad head icon. There was no image yet, just the title (which I remember thinking was an extremely sbemail-sounding title).
- Characters from Yonder Website — I was on lunch break at school, and saw a new wiki edit from XMLbot. A new entry was added to the Random Toon XML file: "yonderwebsite.html", labeled as "Characters from Yonder Website". I couldn't access the toon on my phone, so I was left guessing. Was it a brand new short? Or something else entirely? I decided to go ahead and create the page on my phone right then and there, hoping that the Random Toon title was the real title. And it was.
- Skills of an Artist LIVE!! — I was on lunch break again (but this time it was at a school field trip), and decided to check Strong Bad's Twitter. He had announced a live Skills of an Artist in an hour... about an hour ago. I had arrived at the perfect time! This worked out perfectly! Oh, how wrong I was. When the post popped up, the link brought me to a blank screen. I kept trying to watch, but then it ended. Oh well.
